Delycia and I saw “All Is Lost” yesterday, and, like my brother Al, I thought I was watching Pete Salsich Sr., our dad, instead of Robert Redford. What impressed me was that the sailor (played by Redford) knew exactly what to do in each situation, and I can imagine Dad acting the same way. I actually can’t remember a situation when Dad didn’t know what to do, or at least what to attempt to do. Also, Redford’s sailor seemed to almost relish his situation (I thought I saw a slight smile at times) and I recall some times, sailing with Dad, when I thought to myself, “He seems to actually enjoy it when problems arise.” Even when Redford shouted a loud expletive, I thought of Dad, who shocked me a few times with a “son of a b----” or a “sh——“. Finally, Redford’s sailor never gave up, and I don’t recall our Dad ever doing so, either. (Of course, I may be conveniently forgetting some things, for good memories’ sake.)
