Today we took the smoothest of all train rides north to the little village of Ely, to visit their famous cathedral. I've always loved train rides, and this one was no exception -- 90 minutes of sightseeing across the farms and pastures of the countryside, and some ideal time for quiet reading and meditation. The cathedral was spectacular, as we expected. We took an hour-long tour of the central tower, climbing over 200 steps to the tip-top roof, where we saw incredible vistas. When we had come down again, Cia took another tour, but I found a comfortable chair in the nave and simply meditated on age-old truths that seemed truly alive inside the cathedral. We had lunch, with tea for two, in the cathedral's cafe, and then wandered around the old town of Ely on our way back to the train station.
