Reading and talking about books has been a big part of my last two days. On Monday, I attended our book group meeting at the Mystic Noank Library . . . but without my beloved Cia. For a number of reasons, she has finally  abandoned her reading of "100 Years of Solitude". Basically, she was simply not enjoying it at all. She loves to read, but doesn't care to spend hours and hours reading a book she doesn't like, when books she enjoys, like The House of the Seven Gables or A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, are waiting for her.  So . . . I'm doing the CLAM book group by myself, at least until we start  our next book, Great Expectations, when I am sure Cia will be back with us.  (CLAM stands for Classic Literature At Mystic.)

Then, yesterday we drove up to Middletown for the class on Japanese poetry at Wesleyan College. Cia decided to skip this final class -- she felt like she wouldn't get much out of it, since we would be writing our own haiku poems, which she definitely did not want to do -- so I was on my own again. (She took a long walk around Middletown and the Wesleyan campus.) It was a good class, though not great. The guest lecturer, a haiku specialist, got off track and went way overtime, but he did make some salient points about haiku and how to write them.

Here are some photos Cia took during her walk around the Wesleyan campus.

Finally, here are some photos of the glamorous autumn colors in our part of New England.
