"Morning Ride", oil, by Mary Maxam |

This has seemed like a long and complicated (though very enjoyable) day, starting with a delicious breakfast with Cia (indoors, for a change this summer) and then another productive silent meditation side-by-side with her outside under the shade of a little dogwood. Then Cia went for what turned out to be a very long bike ride (12 miles) and I stayed home and mowed the backyard. Next, I took the car to Westerly for service and wrote a fairly good poem while I waited, and read some scenes from Twelfth Night, and then back home, and for some strange reason, I took an 8 mile bike ride in mid-80's heat, which was not fun at all, and then back home to sit in the shade in the backyard and get my breath back. Finally, we grabbed some sandwiches at Panera and sat on the beach at sundown at Rocky Neck and watched the evening light slowly and beautifully change.
