Today was a bust day of deep thinking for us. First, we spent a good part of the day doing our final readings and notes for our two book groups tonight, then drove to Middletown for our first group at Wesleyan College. It's led by a retired professor, and we're reading Goethe's "Faust", or trying our best to read it. It's a strange and intricate book, originally in German, but the professor, thank heavens, is extremely knowledgable about Goethe and his times, so it's quite rewarding just to listen to him share his wisdom. From there, we drove back to Mystic for our bi-weekly discussion of Middlemarch, and it was just as stimulating as it always is. The book is wonderful, and so is our group of deep readers and thinkers.
