Yesterday, a scorcher, we laid low under our low-hanging, cooling trees in the backyard, reading and talking. Occasionally, we moved to the bedroom and set two fans spinning, where we felt surprisingly comfortable. (Cia, I think, is always fairly comfortable with the heat, possibly because of her years as a youngster in desert-like Houston.)

In the late afternoon, we drove a few minutes to the small beach in Noank, where we sat in the shade and sometimes stood in, and sometimes sank into, the soothingly cold water of the Atlantic Ocean. An ideally cool way to bring a sultry summer day to a close.
