Let's see . . . what have we been doing since last Thursday?
Well, we drove home -- or Cia drove us home -- from Lenox last Friday night, arriving in Mystic close to 10:00. We slept well, and then spent Saturday in the yard and garden, sort of straightening and trimming things, including the grass, which I mowed before the sun was too warm. It was good to be back beside the beautiful Mystic River and in our much-loved home.

Since then, we've been dealing with a foot injury I sustained while walking in Lenox, so we've had to do our exercising at the Y, Cia upstairs with the machines and me in the warm pool, working my arms and legs as hard as possible. I've actually enjoyed this exercise very much, and I may slowly switch over to more consistent water exercise in the future. Cia has been a marvelous
care-giver for me with my maimed foot. She prepares ice packs for me twice a day, watches and waits for me to take my anti-inflammatory meds, and refuses to let me do work that requires any significant walking. Just a moment ago she brought my footstool and asked me to put my foot up to rest it. How lucky can a guy get!
Cia took a walk at Barn Island a few days ago, and saw this sunny scene of white birds rising from the marsh.
Of course, we continue to spend hours beside each other with our books, enjoying the reading and the company. We are both reading R.D. Blackmore's wonderful novel, Lorna Doone, a poetic and light-hearted look at the at life in 17th century England, particularly in the Devon and Somerset area where we will be sojourning for a few weeks this fall. As with all our books, we love to share favorite sentences and scenes, and to discuss the merits of the book in general. We both give it a very high score thus far.
