Cia in Central Park |
Yesterday we took a wonderful trip to New York City to see Puccini's
Turandot at the Met. We left home around 6:00 to catch the early train from Old Saybrook, with a quick transfer in New Haven. The train ride both ways was delightful -- a little noisier than our usual Amtrak "quiet car", but still a relaxing ride. We walked about 30 blocks from Grand Central to the Met, wandering through Central Park on a beautiful late autumn day. The opera was spectacular, one of the most memorable I've ever seen. I loved Puccini's music, especially the mighty horns and tympani, and the soloists were wonderful. I also loved the storyline, a rather magical and uplifting tale about a frightened, frigid queen who learns, at the end, that genuine love is actually possible.
