Cia has been immersing herself in a biography of Charles Dickens, but today we both lost ourselves in some powerful chapters in his "Great Expectations". She was reading on the love seat by the fire, when she suddenly sat up with an astonished expression on her face. "I told you so!" she said. "I knew it! I knew it!" What she was talking about was the surprising revelation in the book that Pip's convict was actually his benefactor, and the look on her face was one of both amazement and victory. I think she was sort of surprised by this revelation, but at the same time she was proud of the fact that she suspected, many chapters ago, that this was the truth. She's a longtime reader of mystery novels, and she saw the clues way before I did. "Yep. I knew it! It was SO obvious!" she said again, with energy and delight.
