Last night we saw another pristine performance by the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, this one featuring Dvorak's Cello Concerto which included a smooth, inspiring solo performance by Alan Ohkubo, the young principal cellist of the orchestra. The concerto is full of lovely and deeply moving melodies, and Mr. Ohkubo put all of his vigorous artistry into the performance. I found tears coming to my eyes a few times as I listened. Before the concert, we had dinner with both Jim and Ann, and John and Debbie Papp, at Tony D's, just across the street from the Garde Theater, where the concert was being held. The place was way too noisy for me, but the companionship was excellent and the conversation was a genuine treat.
This morning we took another very early walk, this time up and down the hills of the coastal village of Noank. We started with warm clothes around 7:00 am, but within 30 minutes we had removed some layers and were trying to keep cool as we climbed and descended the hills along the silent, sunny harbor. Then home for a delicious breakfast, and then 60 minutes of thankful silent worship at the Westerly Quaker meeting house.
