This morning we took a brisk walk on the hills of West Mystic, sometimes seeing the silent river in the distance, sometimes just the old homes along the old roads. It was a delightfully cool morning, so I had a chance to try out my new hiking pants for the walking trips in England next week, and they felt perfect. I'm very much looking forward to our lucky adventures in the south of Britain.

I managed to finish reading the assigned chapters in "Song of Solomon" for our book club discussion tonight, and I must admit to being puzzled, and somewhat disappointed, by the book thus far. I just find myself lost among the pages very often, with all the confusing characters and the interlacing events. It might not be Morrison's fault, however. I may just need to focus my attention more carefully when I'm reading, really zero in on the sentences and words as I read them.

Now it's 8:58 pm, and the September crickets are singing outside, sending a message of sleepiness my way.
