Another lovely day in Lenox, and another refreshing one for us. After an early breakfast (not on the porch, due to the temp just in the high 50s), we drove to the beginning of the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail near Pittsfield, MA, and took an absolutely delightful 14-mile ride along lakes and mountains. The trail seemed mostly flat, but I got a tremendous workout on the ride, partly, I guess, because I pushed pretty hard in my highest gears. I was very impressed with the trail, and so glad Cia suggested it.

In the afternoon, we relaxed beside our lovely lake, taking dips now and then, reading, watching the scenery with binoculars.

ON LAUREL LAKE
(two in their 70s)

Everything was swinging – summer trees,
the flag above us on the pole, the breeze
that swayed and made the water undulate
in gentle ways. It was as if the gate
of summer was unlocked and swinging
back and forth for fun, and life was singing
just because. We sat on swings and swayed

together in the twirling life our love had made.
