Today I took a day off from our usual strenuous exercise, and simply mowed the lawn to give my body a workout. Actually, it was a warm day, and the sweat was flowing, so I was fairly worn out when I finished. Luckily, no more mowing for at least a week!

I spent some time today with both Wordsworth's "The Prelude" and Fielding's "Tom Jones", and found great rewards in both readings. They are completely dissimilar books, and yet both are full of uplifting wisdom. Fielding's lighthearted approach to his characters and themes is a blessing, and I had totally forgotten how powerful Wordsworth's spiritual statements are. I can now see why he was one of my important spiritual mentors for many years. I'm glad I'm re-finding him.

My Poem for Today
WRITING ON THE FRIDGE

He put magnetic words together on
the fridge, just following the rhythms of
his flowing life. A lively cadence took
him where it wished to go, across some thoughts
and through some tumbling feelings and along
a stream of memories. He watched the flow
and simply followed it, and words
came mellowly along, and soon a poem
had flowed onto the charismatic fridge.
