Yesterday we did our third "silver sneakers" class at the Y, and it was both exhausting and uplifting,  as were the first two. It was 60 minutes of constant movement, sometimes quick and complicated, sometimes slower and more strenuous (with weights and elastic cords). I started praying for the 60 minutes to be finished at about the 10 minute mark. However, at the same time, I was feeling lucky and inspired for the entire class -- lucky to be with 40+ tough, dedicated seniors, and inspired by their stalwartness and determination.

I also had an enjoyable coffee chat in the morning with old friend Jim Royle and a former student of ours, King White, whom we taught some 36 years ago. We reminisced with laughs and sighs for well over an hour -- good memories for each of us. I have felt for many years that I was not a very good teacher back in those early days, but King did his best to convince me otherwise. He obviously remembered the classes Jim and I taught with fondness.

Today I took a break from exercising, and stayed at home to read and write and just enjoy the cool and windy pre-fall weather. For dinner, I grilled up some salmon steaks and we drove to the beach at Stonington Borough to eat and watch the sea and sails and birds and a special sunset.
