A POEM FOR TODAY

PEACE

If peace is what I want, I have to live
without the worship of security.
I have to slowly learn to love and give
in fellowship. I have to try to free

myself from always taking care of me,
from thinking everything revolves around
my so-called separate life. I have to see
that shelter and protection isn’t found

in self-regard, but in surrendering
to all the universe and all its joys
and sorrows. I must discover how to sing
the song of letting go, and live with poise

and humbleness. True peace arrives when “me”
transforms to “us”, and “I” grows into “we”.
