A HAPPY FAMILY DAY

We had a happy day with family,

thirteen of us at Jamie's house to share

the luck we felt in having friends to care

for us. I think we felt like we could see

the good in each of us, like light had shined

and it was clear how wonderful we were.

The love that lived in all of us began to stir

and spread to each of us. A gentle kind

of loyalty began to grow. Alone

we felt content, but now, together, we

were brave and felt the quiet guarantee

that families give, that we have grown

together and are one. Today wrapped all

of us in friendship like the softest shawl.
