This morning we attended the funeral of a good friend's wife, who had been suffering for a long time. The service, in an episcopal church,  reminded me so much of my catholic childhood and the countless masses I attended. Honestly, it was hard to push out of mind the bad memories I now have of my upbringing in the church. So much of the service today seemed artificial to me, but the sorrow felt by our friend and the people in the church was certainly real and palpable.

After lunch, we took a brisk walk up to McQuades to buy a few groceries for dinner. It's maybe a three mile walk round-trip, and we kept a fairly good pace, so I was sort of whipped when we reach home.
